Write a CareerFeed headline that says what you do and want

Write a CareerFeed profile headline that names your role, skills and goal, with fictional examples for freshers and experienced candidates.

By the BechNaSeekho Careers Team · Editorial guide, not a member post · Published

Your headline is the line under your name. On CareerFeed it appears with your posts, on your profile and in People search, which matches the words in it. A clear headline tells a reader in one line what you do now or what you are looking for.

Know where your headline shows

  • On your profile, in full. A headline can be up to 120 characters.
  • Next to your name on your posts, where the first 80 characters are shown — so put the most important words first.
  • In People search, where someone searching for a role or city can find you through the words in your headline.

A simple formula

  1. Your current role, or the role you want.
  2. One or two skills or areas you work in.
  3. Your city or work mode, if it matters for the roles you want.
  4. Optionally, what you are looking for next.

Use the words people search for

Use the common name of a role — telecaller, inside sales executive, customer support executive, business development associate — rather than an internal title only your company uses. If you speak Hindi and English at work, saying so helps for customer-facing roles.

Fictional examples

Fictional example — fresher
Graduate · Looking for telecalling or customer support roles · Noida · Hindi and English

A writing model, not a real member's headline.

Fictional example — experienced
Inside sales executive · B2B software leads and demos · Gurugram · Open to team leader roles

Replace every detail with your own.

What to leave out

  • Phone numbers, email addresses or other contact details: your headline is public.
  • Claims you cannot support, such as “top performer”, without context.
  • Salary expectations — discuss these with an employer, not in public.
  • “Urgently need job” — name the role you want instead.

Keep it current

Update your headline when you start a new role or change what you are looking for, so that it matches your posts and your resume.

Common questions

Should I say I am looking for work?

Yes, if you are. Be specific: “Looking for inside sales roles in Pune” helps more than “Open to opportunities”.

How long can my headline be?

Up to 120 characters. Posts show the first 80, so lead with your role.
