CareerFeed guide
Ask for a referral without spamming
Ask for a job referral politely: choose the right person, name one specific role, keep it short and respect a no. Includes a fictional template.

A referral is a favour: someone puts their name next to yours. Make it easy for them to say yes β or no β by asking the right person, for one role you fit, in a short message.
Ask the right person
Ask someone who works at the company or close to the team: a senior from your college, a former colleague, or someone whose posts you have engaged with. Read their recent posts first. Sending the same request to dozens of strangers rarely works and can look like spam.
Ask for one specific role
Find the actual vacancy and check that you meet its main requirements. Mention the role title and where it is listed. βAny opening in your company?β puts the work of searching on the other person.
Where to ask on CareerFeed
CareerFeed has no private messages: conversations happen in public posts and comments, and you can follow people to see their posts. Keep a public request brief, never post your phone number or resume in a comment, and ask the person how they prefer to be contacted. If they share an official referral process, use it.
Keep the request short
- Who you are, in one line.
- The role you are applying for.
- Two lines on why you fit, with one piece of evidence.
- Your request, and an easy way to decline.
- Thanks.
Fictional template
βHi Priya, I'm a 2025 commerce graduate from your college. I'm applying for the inside sales associate role your team has listed. I handled sponsor calls for our college fest and kept a follow-up sheet for 40 contacts. Would you be open to referring me, or telling me how you prefer to be contacted about it? Completely fine if not β thank you either way.β
Names and details are invented. Use your own, and only claim what you can explain.
After you ask
Follow up once if you have not heard back after about a week, then let it go. Thank the person whatever the outcome, and tell them if you get an interview. Do not ask them to βpushβ your application or offer anything in return for a referral.
Common questions
What if I don't know anyone at the company?
Apply directly. Over time, comment thoughtfully on posts from people in the roles you want; relationships make later requests easier.
Can I ask in a public comment?
Yes, briefly. Do not share contact details or your resume there; ask how the person prefers to be contacted.
