How to write a sales job description that attracts the right candidates
Write a clear sales job description: role title, exact location, daily work, targets, pay structure, shift, requirements and hiring steps, with a fictional template.

Candidates decide whether to apply from what your job description tells them. A clear description brings fewer, better-matched applications and fewer drop-outs after the offer, because people know what the role involves before they apply.
Use a title candidates search for
Use the common name of the role — telecaller, inside sales executive, field sales executive, business development associate, sales team leader. Add the product or sector if it helps: “Inside sales executive (insurance)”.
Describe the real working day
Say whether the work is phone-based, field-based or mixed, where leads come from, and what a normal day looks like. Name the exact office location, not only the city, and state any travel the role needs.
Be clear about targets and pay structure
Explain how performance is measured and what a target is based on. Separate fixed pay from variable pay, and state the conditions for incentives. Avoid “unlimited earnings” or “up to” figures without explaining what they depend on: unclear pay is a common reason candidates decline or leave.
List requirements honestly
Separate must-have requirements from nice-to-have ones. If you train new joiners, say so — it widens your pool to capable freshers. Do not include requirements unrelated to the job, such as gender, religion or marital status.
Explain the hiring process
List the interview rounds, who conducts them and roughly how long the process takes. Never ask candidates to pay a fee, deposit or charge to apply, interview or join.
Fictional template
Inside sales executive (health insurance), Sector 62 office, Noida · Phone-based: you call people who have asked about health insurance and help them compare plans · Daily calling and follow-up targets, reviewed weekly · Fixed monthly pay plus incentives on issued policies; incentive rules shared in writing at offer stage · Day shift, six days a week · Graduates welcome; product training provided · Process: phone screen, role-play with the team leader, final discussion.
Invented company and terms, shown to illustrate the structure. Use your own accurate details.
Posting on CareerSync
On CareerSync, approved company accounts can post jobs, and each job is reviewed before it is listed. The same clarity helps candidates there find and trust your role.
Common questions
Should I state the pay?
Candidates make better decisions when they know the fixed pay and how variable pay works. If you share a range, make it accurate for the role.
How long should a job description be?
Long enough to cover duties, targets, pay structure, shift, location and process — usually a few short sections.
